This Short Course will provide an introduction to the teaching tool, Granta EduPack. Granta EduPack contains a database of over 4000 engineering materials and tools for selecting materials and understanding the impacts of material choices. It has also been designed to support a wide variety of teaching styles, from design- and science-led approaches to problem-based teaching. Alongside this are a set of high-quality teaching resources to support teachers and students in studying materials in engineering.

You will:

  1. See how our materials-related databases can benefit your teaching
  2. Discover top tips for visualizing materials properties in Ashby charts
  3. Learn how materials link to modern topics such as sustainable materials and bio-materials
  4. Learn about specialized tools and data to assess and make accurate materials decisions
  5. Access invaluable teaching resources, like case studies, exercises and lecture units

Used at over 1,000 universities worldwide, it enhances the teaching of materials in engineering, design, and sustainability in a visual and engaging way.

Dr Lakshana Mohee

She has been part of the Academic Development Team at Ansys for the past four years and she leads the North American Customer Excellence Programme. She supports universities from a technical perspective and builds partnerships for collaborations.

Dr Bridget Ogwezi

Ansys Academic Development Manager

She holds a B.Eng in Civil Engineering and an Engineering doctorate in technologies for a sustainable built environment. As part of the academic development team at Ansys she uses her background as platform to support universities around the world with Ansys tools in the fields of materials, simulation and sustainability.

Dr Bosco Yu (he/him)

Assistant Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, McMaster University

Dr Bosco Yu holds a PhD in Materials, Mechanics and Design from the University of Cambridge. He is currently the lead materials science instructor for the Engineering 1 program at McMaster University. In his teaching, Dr Yu utilizes engineering design tools (e.g. Granta EduPack) to educate students on the real-world applications potential of various materials science concepts taught at the university level.
